Puerto Rican Festival Returns to New Haven
Annual Event Celebrates Culture and Community
Festival to be Held on New Haven Green from 1-9 PM
The New Haven Puerto Rican Festival, hosted by Puerto Ricans United Inc., will return this Saturday, August 27th, for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. The festival, which will be held on the New Haven Green from 1-9 PM, is a regional celebration of Puerto Rican culture that has become a vibrant part of the city's identity.
Originally founded in 1970 as a way to raise funds for scholarships for Puerto Rican students, the festival has since grown into a major cultural event that attracts thousands of attendees each year. The festival features live music, traditional Puerto Rican food and drinks, dance performances, and arts and crafts vendors.
This year's festival will feature a special tribute to the late Rafael Cepeda, a renowned Puerto Rican musician who passed away earlier this year. Cepeda, known as the "Father of Salsa," was a pioneering figure in the genre and his music will be celebrated throughout the day.
