Historical Tornado Activity

According to data from the Storm Prediction Center (SPC), Edmond, Oklahoma has experienced 11 tornadoes since 1875. The most destructive of these occurred on October 8, 1986, and was rated an F4 on the Fujita scale. This tornado caused extensive damage and claimed the lives of two people.

Since 1950, the longest period without a tornado in the immediate Oklahoma City (OKC) area, which includes Edmond, is 5 years and 8 months. This period lasted from October 8, 1992, to June 17, 1998.

An EF3 tornado caused widespread damage to the University of Central Oklahoma campus.
