Buenos Aires Mayor Launches Argentina Presidential Run

Horacio Rodríguez Larreta: Leading Buenos Aires into the Future

Buenos Aires Mayor Launches Argentina Presidential Run

Larreta, seen as a top contender, has significantly reformed the city since taking office

BUENOS AIRES, Feb 22 (Reuters) - Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, the mayor of the Argentine capital Buenos Aires, has launched his presidential campaign. Larreta is seen as a leading contender in the race to replace President Alberto Fernández, who is facing an uphill battle for reelection.

Larreta, 57, has been mayor of Buenos Aires since 2015. During his time in office, he has overseen a number of significant reforms, including improvements to the city's public transportation system and the creation of new parks and green spaces. He has also been a vocal critic of Fernández's government, which he has accused of mishandling the economy and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Larreta is a member of the center-right Juntos por el Cambio coalition, which is the main opposition to Fernández's ruling Frente de Todos coalition. Other leading candidates in the race include Patricia Bullrich, the former security minister, and María Eugenia Vidal, the former governor of Buenos Aires province.
