Mississippi State Fires Football Coach Zach Arnett After One Season
Former Analyst at Ole Miss Named Head Coach in December 2022
Arnett Led Bulldogs to 4-8 Record in 2023
Mississippi State University has fired head football coach Zach Arnett after less than one season, the school announced Monday.
Arnett, who was hired in December 2022 after the death of Mike Leach, led the Bulldogs to a 4-8 record in 2023. The Bulldogs lost their final six games of the season, including a 24-22 setback to rival Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl.
Arnett, 36, was previously an analyst at Ole Miss and had no head coaching experience prior to taking over at Mississippi State.
"I want to thank Zach for his dedication to our football program," Mississippi State Director of Athletics Zac Selmon said in a statement. "He is a man of integrity and character, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors."
Mississippi State will now begin a search for its next head football coach.
